Terre Haute, IN — Drew Cahill, a resident
of Vigo County, was awarded a 2016 Chevy Cruise today (6/6/17) after hitting a hole-in-one at Rea Golf Course during the 18th Annual Ivy Tech Scholarship Golf Scramble on May 19.
Terre Haute Chevrolet sponsored the 13th hole, with a hole-in-one challenge. This is the first hole-in-one ever recorded at Ivy Tech’s annual fundraiser. Chancellor Jonathan Weinzapfel said the hole-in-one happened soon after the event began, and the excitement grew as more and more teams heard the buzz across the course. General Manager, Jack Patterson shared statistics that stated that there are 45 million rounds of golf played a year and a hole in one is scored once in every 3,500 rounds. This was Cahill’s second hole in one, scoring the first while in high school. The odds of scoring a second hole in one is 14%.
The Golf Scramble raised $20,000, which will go toward scholarships for students at Ivy Tech this school year. This annual event has raised nearly $350,000 since 1999 for students attending Ivy Tech Community College Wabash Valley. In 2016, nearly $140,000 was awarded in scholarships and emergency funding to 170 students in the Wabash Valley.
